Our Story
Life in silk is a luxury house that owns two brands, Basara and Nu.
We started Basara as a silk lingerie brand in 2016 to add quality luxurious materials to everyday comfort.
“I would like to make lingerie which enriches your life with high-quality fabrics.” -The designer of Basara, Kimiko, launched the brand from that thought.
After a few seasons, we decided to launch the silk knitwear brand Nu Life in Silk.
Our motto, "Silk is for daily wear" motivated us to launch our knitwear.
Utilizing traditional Japanese loopwheel machines and 100% pure silk creates a moderately thick texture, comfort, and pleasure for the skin, making them the most desired underwear.
Designer Kimiko:
She is a fashion designer living in Upstate New York. She graduated from ESMOD Paris, with a specialty in lingerie design, before working for one of the top-end lingerie manufacturers in Japan. Kimiko has work experiences from Paris, Brussels, Kyoto, and New York.
Director Yusuke:
He started his career as a stylist in 2003 and was involved in the first Yoga magazine ever published in Japan.
His cultivation of fashion as a lifestyle led to the launch of the silk lingerie line, Basara in 2016. He continues to successfully brand lifestyle fashion while promoting many other clothing lines. He also launched the silk knitwear line, Nu Life in Silk in 2021. He is a branding director of Basara and Nu.
Carefully handcrafted in Japan
Basara takes responsibility for manufacturing. We proudly create and sell only what we would like to wear. We also pay close attention to sustainability and environmental impact. Thus, we choose silk, making women more beautiful by a natural protein fiber.
As we prioritize the rich and smooth texture and beautiful appearances, all the items are sewed and tailored seamlessly, both front and back. All our garments are carefully hand-worked by a small factory in Japan.
